Physics-Based Water Treatment for Commercial & Industrial Heat Transfer Systems

Control Scale, Corrosion, and Biological Growth Without Traditional Chemical Treatment Programs

if Your water treatment program were working perfectly, you wouldn’t be here. Most facilities evaluate alternatives when performance, cost, or control no longer align with expectations. End the cycle for good. Call Scale Free Systems and. Stop dealing with scale, corrosion, and chemical headaches!

Eliminate Scale using physics, not Magnents or chemicals

Scale Free Systems provides physics-based water treatment technology for commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. Our systems help control scale, corrosion, and biological growth in cooling towers, chillers, boilers, and heat exchangers—without relying on continuous chemical treatment. The result is improved efficiency, lower maintenance, extended equipment life, and a more sustainable approach to water treatmen

Scale Free Systems Offers A Physics Based Water Treatment Solution

Most water treatment programs react to problems after they’ve already reduced efficiency, increased costs, and damaged equipment. Scale Free Systems takes a fundamentally different approach—addressing the root causes of scale, corrosion, and biological growth by controlling the conditions inside your equipment. The result is a system that runs cleaner, lasts longer, and performs more predictably without the ongoing burden of chemical treatment.

  • Eliminate mineral buildup before it forms. By neutralizing the electrical conditions that cause calcium and magnesium to bond to surfaces, Scale Free keeps heat transfer equipment clean, efficient, and operating at peak performance.

Remove existing Scale buildup over time.

  • Protect your assets at the source. Our system removes the electrical drivers behind corrosion, helping extend equipment life, reduce failures, and minimize long-term capital replacement costs.

  • Maintain a cleaner, safer system without heavy chemical use. Through controlled ionization, Scale Free effectively manages bacteria and biofilm, improving system hygiene and operational reliability.

  • This isn’t guesswork—it’s engineered control. With integrated monitoring and real-time data, your system is continuously optimized for energy savings, water efficiency, and reduced maintenance.

Before you Evaluate Water Treatment Options You Need To Understand the Shift

Most water Treatment programs are designed to react to problems after they occur, Scale Free Systems operates differently— by contolling the conditions inside the equioment itself

The Problem with Chemical Water Treatment Programs

Chemical water treatment fails primarily due to improper water analysis, incorrect chemical dosing, and poor system maintenance. These failures allow issues like scaling, bio-fouling, corrosion, or inadequate disinfection to occur. Key causes include incorrect chemical selection, insufficient contact time, mechanical malfunctions, and unaddressed fluctuations in influent water quality.

1. Poor Analysis and Incompatible Chemistry

  • Missing or Incomplete Water Testing: Without accurate knowledge of contaminants, pH, alkalinity, or metals, the wrong chemicals are chosen.

  • Poor Chemical Selection: The selected chemicals may not suit the specific system conditions (e.g., using a product that doesn't target specific bacteria).

  • Poorly Mixed Chemicals: Inadequate mixing prevents the chemical from interacting with the entire water volume, requiring higher, costly dosages that still fail to treat the water properly.

2. Dosing and Operational Issues

  • Improper Dosing (Under or Over-dosing): Too little chemical fails to disinfect or soften, while too much can cause corrosive conditions, excessive scaling, or damage equipment.

  • Improper pH/Alkalinity Balance: Even with disinfectants present, water that is too acidic or too alkaline can render chemicals inactive, leading to corrosion or scaling.

  • Unstable Oxidation: Improper use of chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or chlorine can cause odors or damage to downstream components.

3. Equipment and System Maintenance Issues

  • Fouling and Scaling: Deposits (calcium, magnesium) coat sensors and pipes, reducing chemical contact and clogging systems.

  • Missing or Clogged Pre-filters: Failure to filter out sediment first means the chemicals are overwhelmed by suspended solids.

  • Mechanical Failure: Chemical pumps, feeding tubes, and sensors can become clogged, break down, or lose calibration.

  • Lack of Maintenance: Failure to change media or clean filters allows contaminants to build up beyond the capacity of the chemical treatment.

4. Environmental and Design Factors

  • Incorrect System Design/Sizing: If the system is too small for the flow, chemicals do not have enough contact time to act.

  • Sudden Changes in Water Chemistry: Drastic changes in the raw water quality (e.g., after rain) can overload the preset chemical dosing, rendering it ineffective.

  • Biological Resistance: Bacteria can develop resistance to certain disinfectants, requiring a rotation of chemicals.

Why Other Chemical-Free Solutions Don’t Work

If you can’t measure it, you can’t control it.

We do not define this as a “chemical-free” water treatment approach. Instead, it is a physics-based solution—one that fundamentally alters the conditions that cause scale, corrosion, and biological activity, without relying on chemical intervention.

The Scale Free Solution; control the energy driving the problem

We deliver non-chemical water treatment solutions for:

  • Cooling towers

  • Chillers

  • Boilers

  • Heat exchangers

  • Evaporative condensers

  • Storage tanks

Our systems are proven to:

  • Prevent and reverse scale formation

  • Slow and control corrosion

  • Inhibit biological growth

  • Improve heat transfer efficiency

  • Reduce energy and water consumption

Our Work Speaks For Itself

SFS has been in business for over 25 years with instalations in 30 states.

  • ★★★★★ “Reduced downtime and cleaner system operation” Since implementing Scale Free Systems, we’ve seen fewer shutdowns related to scaling or biological buildup. The system runs cleaner, and our team spends less time on reactive maintenance.

    — Maintenance Supervisor, Commercial HVAC Contractor

  • ★★★★★ “A true physics-based alternative to chemical treatment” What stood out most was the non-chemical approach. Instead of constantly adjusting water chemistry, we’re now treating the system itself. It has improved reliability across multiple HVAC systems and eliminated concerns around chemical storage and handling.

    Building Services Director, Healthcare Facility

  • ★★★★★ “Lower maintenance costs and more stable system performance” We transitioned away from traditional chemical treatment programs and the difference has been substantial. Scale Free has simplified our water treatment process and reduced ongoing maintenance costs. Our boilers and heat exchangers are running more consistently with fewer disruptions.
